The US National Archives have asked former presidents Bill Clinton, George Bush and Barack Obama to investigate whether they still have secret government documents in their possession. The request comes after secret documents were found with President Joe Biden, former President Donald Trump and his Vice President Mike Pence.
The archives sent the request by letter to the past six presidents and their vice presidents. The letter, read by CNN, urges the former heads of state to look again in their personal archives to see if the presidential reports have “accidentally” ended up there.
President Jimmy Carter, 98, did not receive the letter because legislation regarding the delivery of presidential documents was not yet in effect during his presidency. Carter signed the Presidential Records Act into law, but it didn’t go into effect until after he was in office. The letter was sent to representatives of former presidents Ronald Reagan and George Bush Sr.

Confidential documents about Vice President Pence were found last week, after the documents were previously found in the home and private office of current President Joe Biden, from his days as Obama’s vice president. The FBI even raided Trump to repossess the more than 300 classified documents he took home. All three have now also received the letter from the State Archives to verify if there are still secret documents in their home.
