UN: Coordinated international support needed for reconciliation in Yemen
Grundberg, the United Nations (UN) Special Representative for Yemen, said in a written statement that they had discussed Yemen with German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerboc and some other German officials.
Stating that they discussed the ways of a lasting peace with international support that will bring together all parties in Yemen, Grundberg said: “Coordinated international support is needed for a reconciliation that results in peace in Yemen.” he used the phrases.
Emphasizing that the international community can invite the Yemeni people to calm and reconciliation as a guarantor, Grundberg thanked Germany for its support of UN efforts in the fields of peace, development and humanitarian aid.
Grundberg did not disclose when or where he met with German officials.
CRISIS IN YEMEN
In Yemen, the Iranian-backed Houthis have controlled the capital Sanaa and some regions since September 2014.
Saudi-led coalition forces have been supporting the Yemeni government against the Houthis since March 2015.
UN special envoy to Yemen Grundberg announced on April 2, 2022 that the Yemeni government and the Houthis agreed to suspend air, land, and sea operations for 2 months, with the ceasefire later being extended twice. The ceasefire between the parties, which lasted 6 months, ended on October 2. (AA)
