Erdogan said “there is no support from us”, the US repeated its support

Tension continues to rise on the Ankara-Stockholm line following recent events in Sweden, which plans to join NATO along with Finland.

After the demonstration in the capital Stockholm with a mock-up of President Erdoğan, tensions rose after the far-right politician named Rasmus Paludan burned the Holy Quran near the Turkish embassy in Sweden over the weekend. President Erdoğan said: “If you are so respectful of the Swedish administration, rights and freedoms, you will first respect the religious beliefs of the Republic of Turkey and Muslims. “I’m sorry if you don’t show this respect, you won’t get any support from us in NATO,” he said.

Although Erdogan’s statements aroused great repercussions in the international community, yesterday the US administration supported the entry of Sweden and Finland into NATO. A similar statement from the US was repeated today.

Asked what happened in the Turkey-Sweden-Finland triangle at the press conference held by the US State Department spokesman, Price made a statement.

YOU DID NOT ANSWER THE QUESTION ABOUT UNIQUE MEMBERSHIP

Making remarks after the suspension of NATO talks between the three countries, Price said: “We support Finland and Sweden to become NATO members as soon as possible. I made a statement on this yesterday. They are ready. These countries have advanced military capabilities, and these militaries have previously conducted joint exercises with the United States and other NATO allies. “The democracies of these countries are well developed,” he said.

Regarding the case of the two countries’ NATO membership being considered separately, Price said: “I repeat, we will not comment on hypothetical events. We believe that Finland and Sweden are ready to join NATO. This is not only the opinion of the executive branch, but also the opinion of the legislature. We passed this decision from the Senate last year and this process was very fast.” Price commented: “We are very open about it and, I repeat, we report this situation to all our partners, including Turkey, both in public and in private.”
