Tank call from Poland to Germany
Polish Prime Minister Morawiecki, in a statement to journalists, accused Germany of deadlock.
Recalling Polish Defense Minister Mariusz Blaszczak’s statement that German approval was sought for the delivery of Leopard tanks to Ukraine, Morawiecki said: “I hope that the German response regarding the tanks will be quick, because the Germans they are delaying, running away, acting in ways that are hard to understand.” he said.
Morawiecki noted that it was clear that Germany was not willing to help defend Ukraine more broadly.
Stating that he could not understand Germany’s approach, Morawiecki said: “Is it fear, a completely incomprehensible situation, or the belief that a return to normal relations with Russia is possible?” he used the phrase.
Morawiecki noted that Germany is the largest economy in Europe and should contribute greatly to the coalition of countries helping Ukraine.
Leopard tanks produced by Germany are used in countries of the European Union and NATO such as Denmark, Finland, Greece, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Sweden, Spain, the Czech Republic, Turkey and Hungary.
There are approximately 2,670 Leopard 2 tanks in service with various armies around the world. Weighing approximately 64 tons, Leopard tanks can reach speeds of up to 70 kilometers per hour and can hit targets up to 5,000 meters away with their 120-millimeter smoothbore gun.
European allies such as Poland and Finland have declared that they are ready to send these tanks to Ukraine and are waiting for Berlin’s approval, but since Leopard tanks are made in Germany, Berlin’s approval is required for use in other countries such as Ukraine. (AA)
