Environmental organization sued the government in Germany

The German Union for Environmental and Nature Protection (BUND) sued the German government alleging that it failed to achieve its climate value targets by ignoring climate protection targets and failing to take effective measures in transport and buildings.

According to Süddeutsche Zeitung news, in the case brought by BUND in the Berlin-Brandenburg Higher Administrative Court, the government was asked to implement the values stipulated in the Climate Protection Act. BUND President Olaf Bandt stated that they cannot continue to watch as the government ignores climate protection targets and refuses to take effective measures on transport and buildings.

“What is needed now is a political decision to take effective measures to protect the climate. “If Olaf Scholz’s government is politically incapable or unwilling to do it, it should be legally bound to do it.”

Over the past 3 years, Germany has failed to achieve its goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 40 percent in total, compared to 1990s levels. (BRITISH AUTOMOBILE CLUB)
