Operation in a psychiatry clinic: 15 arrests
According to the news of the Italian news agency ANSA, the relevant units of the Italian gendarmerie (Carabinieri) carried out an operation in a psychiatric clinic in the city of Foggia, in the east of the country.
In the investigation launched by the Foggia Prosecutor’s Office last summer, it was reported that 25 patients between the ages of 40 and 60 with physical and mental disabilities were subjected to sexual abuse, violence, detention and ill-treatment.
Allegations were reported in the media that some clinic staff members slapped and punched patients tied to beds with sheets in the face, dragged them by their hair, and sexually harassed an employee.
In the news, it was noted that 7 of the 30 people questioned as part of the investigation were sent to prison, 8 of them were placed under house arrest, and the other 15 people were prohibited from approaching the clinic. In addition, it was indicated that raids were carried out at the homes of these people and at the offices of the health institution. (AA)
