Wagensveld, leader of the racist PEGIDA movement in the Netherlands, tore up the Koran
Wagensveld shared the image of him tearing up the Quran in front of the parliament building in the administrative capital The Hague yesterday at 2:00 p.m. local time on his Twitter account.
While Wagensveld’s solo demonstration took place under police protection, it was claimed that the racist leader was allowed on the condition that he not burn the Koran.
In the continuation of the exchange, torn pages of the Qur’an were seen to be burned in a frying pan elsewhere.
DETENTION
Similarly, the action by PEGIDA, which planned to burn the Koran in Rotterdam on October 22, ended before Wagensveld was arrested.
Muslim groups gathered at the place where the demonstration was planned in Rotterdam, held a counter-demonstration because the PEGIDA demonstration was not banned despite announcing that it would burn the Koran.
Wagensveld, who was released the same day after his arrest, wanted to hold a similar action in The Hague the next day, but the police detained Wagensveld again on the grounds that he was not following the demonstration rules.
In a written statement made by the Dutch Prosecutor’s Office on November 17, it was reported that Wagensveld, who was detained by police for insulting Muhammad, would not be prosecuted because he insulted religion itself, not members of the faith. Islamic, and that he did not commit any crime. (AA)
