Minister Akar’s strong reaction to Sweden: We hope they end with low attempts
National Defense Minister Hulusi Akar reacted to the actions against Turkey in Sweden, saying: “We hope that Sweden and Finland will show the power and strength of the state, honor their commitments and put an end to the disgusting and vile attempts. “If these things are done, we don’t have a problem,” he said.
Under the presidency of Akar, videoconference with the participation of the Chief of Staff General Yaşar Güler, the Commander of the Land Forces General Musa Avsever, the Commander of the Naval Forces Admiral Ercüment Tatlıoğlu, the Commander of the Air Forces General Atilla Gülan and the Deputy Ministers Yunus Emre Karaosmanoğlu, Şuay Alpay, Alpaslan Kavaklıoğlu and Muhsin Dere and the army commanders held a meeting.
Referring to the NATO accession process of Sweden and Finland at the meeting, Akar said that Turkey always supports NATO’s open door policy. Stating that Turkey is not the enemy of Sweden and Finland, and that the two countries are not opposed to NATO membership, Akar said:
“Just as they want to cooperate with NATO to defend their country, we want cooperation and support with us in the fight against terrorism. They want our support for the defense and security of their country; but they reject our demands in the fight against terrorism. It is not acceptable to ignore all kinds of pettiness, embarrassment and disgusting attempts against Turkey, our president, our flag, Quran and our holy values, and remain silent and careless about it. If so, our position, our position is very clear, clear, obvious. We hope that Sweden and Finland will honor their commitments by demonstrating the power and strength of the state, and that they will put an end to the vile and vile attempts. If these things are done, we have no problems.”
REACTION OF THE EU COMMISSION
Meanwhile, Johannes Bahrke, one of the spokesmen for the European Union (EU) Commission, said that the Swedish authorities should take action regarding the burning of the Holy Quran in Sweden.
Bahrke answered the question about the incident in Sweden at the press conference of the spokesmen of the EU Commission. Stating that such actions are not compatible with the values on which the EU is founded, Bahrke said: “As we have said many times before, racism, xenophobia, racial and religious hatred have no place in the EU. This is an issue that the Swedish authorities should attend to and take action,” he said.
Rasmus Paludan, leader of the Danish far-right Strict Direction Party, burned the Quran in front of the Stockholm Embassy in Sweden on January 21 in Stockholm, the capital of Sweden, and no one was allowed to approach Paludan during the action held under the protection crowded police.
The Swedish government’s permission to burn the Koran in Paludan was refused by many Islamic countries, especially by government and opposition officials in Turkey. (DHA/AA)
