Immigrant smuggling gang with blown up fire truck
An operation was carried out against the human smuggling network transporting migrants from the Maritsa border region to Thessaloniki and Athens in fire trucks and fuel tankers, by smuggling migrants in Alexandroupolis (Evros) province in Western Thrace, Greece.
THEY HAVE OBTAINED 300 THOUSAND EUROS OF PROFIT
In the operation, it was claimed that 15 members of the network, 11 of them Greek and 4 foreigners, took the immigrants to the provinces with special compartments built inside the fuel and fire trucks, and committed this crime in exchange for 2- 4 thousand euros. .
Finally, it was reported that 35 migrants were trapped in the vehicle when a passing fire truck blaring its sirens was stopped by police.
It was announced that the migrant smuggling ring made an unfair profit of 300 to 400 thousand euros in exchange for transporting 155 migrants from the border to Athens and Thessaloniki from August 2022 to January 2023.
7 PEOPLE ARRESTED
During the operations, 13 vehicles were seized, including 3 specially modified fire trucks, 2 tankers, many phones and electronic devices, GPS devices, drugs and money. Of the 15 gang members who were referred to the court, 7 were arrested and sent to prison, while the others were released after judicial control. The investigation is said to continue.
