Thousands of Spaniards are standing in Madrid today to protest against the leftist government. They say the current government undermines the constitution and feel supported by right-wing political parties, reports Reuters news agency.
Protesters gathered outside the Madrid City Hall to demand the departure of Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez. They display Spanish flags en masse and call the Prime Minister a “traitor”.
Organized
The demonstration was organized by more than one hundred groups, including three political parties. With the slogan “For Spain, for democracy and the constitution” they managed to mobilize thousands of people.
Speakers are targeting the government for various decisions ranging from the release of Catalan activists to pacts with regional separatist parties. The government’s COVID policy is also criticized, including by Santiago Abascal, leader of the opposition Vox party.
