US President Joe Biden is halfway through his term. How has he fared in recent years and what about his promises of him? Correspondent Jan Postma looks back and also looks forward. “The next two years are going to be very difficult for Biden.”
“Especially in the hinterland,” explains Postma. Republicans will oppose it in any way they can in Congress. Now they have a majority in the House of Representatives, so they can do it. He will barely be able to do anything. Also, the Republicans will indeed initiate a flurry of investigations, with which Biden will have his hands full.
And when things get tough at home, according to Postma, the president often focuses on foreign affairs. “Biden has always worked to build and hold together that international coalition for Ukraine. This is also a real success for Biden, Rutte also pointed out this week. (…) He will have to find his success abroad, because at home it will no longer be possible, ‘says Postma.
Postma doesn’t know if Biden really intends to run again in 2024. “He’s already in his eighties and I must say you see it too.” At the moment, according to Postma, there is no clear opponent among the Democrats. And if Trump does, Biden thinks he can win again. This is his belief. And as long as there are no other Democrats, that could very well happen.’
