Statement from Sweden on the latest tension with Turkey

Swedish Defense Minister Pal Jonson made a statement in English on his official social media account, announcing that his visit to Ankara has been postponed.

Minister Jonson said: “Yesterday I met my Turkish counterpart, Hulusi Akar, at the US military base in Ramstein, Germany. We decided to postpone the meeting we planned to hold in Ankara until later. Our relations with Turkey are very important to Sweden and we hope to continue the dialogue on common security and defense issues at a later date.”

National Defense Minister Akar criticized the actions taken by supporters of the PKK/YPG terrorist organization in the Swedish capital Stockholm against President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Turkey, and the failure to take any action against the provocation against the Holy Quran and said: “At this point, the visit of the Swedish Defense Minister Pal Jonson to Turkey on January 27 no longer has any significance or significance. That is why we canceled the visit, ”he said.

Recalling the triple memorandum signed in Madrid in June between Turkey, Sweden and Finland, Akar said: “Our only request is to fulfill the commitments in this memorandum. We hope that Sweden and Finland will do their part, their homework, ”he said. (DHA)
