The most talked about claim about Gazprom
In the news from the Gazeta.uz news site, which broadcasts in Uzbek, the details of Russia’s proposal to establish the Tripartite Gas Union with Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan last November, it was stated that the Russian and Uzbek sides met several times. and held bilateral talks on this issue.
In the news, the Russian side offered to supply Russian gas to Uzbekistan through the “Central Asia-Central” natural gas pipeline that passes through Kazakhstan, in exchange for Russia taking over the country’s gas transportation system from Uzbekistan and gas from Uzbekistan to China. It was alleged that he wanted his export rights transferred to Gazprom.
While the article states that “the main condition of the Russian side is to transfer the gas transportation system of Uzbekistan to the ownership of Gazprom at the market price,” a similar request was also made to Kazakgaz, the gas transportation company from Kazakhstan, but the Kazakh company did not accept these conditions, it was said no.
The second condition put forward by the Russian side is the transfer of gas export rights from Uzbekistan to China.
“RELEASING RUSSIA’S CONDITIONS IN BILATERAL NEGOTIATIONS WAS POSSIBLE”
As a result of bilateral negotiations between the parties last month, it was reported that it was possible to abolish such conditions from Russia, which was noted as highly unlikely.
The natural gas problem arose in Uzbekistan, where domestic consumption increased after cold weather. In November 2022, the Russian side made an offer to Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan and suggested the creation of the Tripartite Gas Union, which also includes the supply of natural gas to the Uzbek side.
Following this, Uzbekistan’s Energy Minister Corabek Mirzamahmudov announced that natural gas shipments from Russia to Uzbekistan could be made directly on the basis of bilateral trade agreements, not as a union.
