New crisis in Europe! Slovenia warns Montenegro

Visiting the capital of Montenegro, Podgorica, Fajon held a joint press conference with Parliament Speaker Danijela Djurovic and warned about the elections to the Constitutional Court that are taking place during the last term in the country.

Pointing out that “unelected” judges have posed a serious threat in Montenegro, the smallest country in the Western Balkans, since September, Fajon said: “If the members of the court are not elected, Montenegro’s accession negotiations to the EU may to be in danger. The Constitutional Court and the election of its members are the highest priority for the EU”. he used his statements.

Fajon stated that he will present a report on the issue in Brussels on January 23, saying: “I hope to receive positive news before this date. The Constitutional Court is an extremely important institution for democracy, the rule of law and elections.” he said.

Djurovic also stated that he will meet with the candidates who applied for Constitutional Court membership and hoped that the issue would be resolved as soon as possible.

Emphasizing that he will also meet with his colleagues to hold the parliamentary session where the members will be elected as soon as possible, Djurovic said: “I believe that Montenegro will overcome the obstacles on its way as soon as possible and continue on its way to the United States,” he said. .

Meanwhile, while the members of the Constitutional Court are elected by the Assembly of Montenegro, the Constitutional Court of Montenegro, consisting of 7 judges, has 3 members since September, so the court cannot carry out its activities.

It was noted that while 4 judges could not be elected because the required majority was not achieved in the sessions held in September and October, 27 candidates requested revote.

The judge issue in Montenegro, which has been going on for 5 months, is expected to be resolved as soon as possible. (AA)
