Dutch government suspends restriction on family reunification

In his letter to parliament, the Minister of State for Justice and Security, Eric van der Burg, stated that restrictions on the practice of family reunification were suspended following court decisions that it was against Dutch and Union law. European (EU).

In the letter, it was indicated that refugees who have the right of temporary residence will be granted a visa to their relatives outside the Netherlands in their applications for family reunification.

While the government implemented a series of restrictions in August 2022 following placement problems in asylum centers and the inability of municipalities to provide shelter for refugees, it placed restrictions on family reunification if refugees could not find housing. adequate.

In the framework of the restrictions, it was announced that the necessary visa will not be issued to refugees who have the right of temporary residence to bring their families out of the Netherlands until they find a suitable house where they can stay for at least 6 months.
