Turkey condemns congressional incursion into Brazil
In a written statement made by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, it was emphasized that it is important to respect the results of elections and democratic processes that reflect the will of the people in Brazil.
Underlining that Turkey stands in solidarity with the government of President Lula da Silva and the Brazilian people in the face of the aforementioned actions, the statement read: “We condemn the acts of violence against the government, the Congress and the Constitutional Court led by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva in Brazil”.
Yesterday in Brazil, supporters of former President Jair Bolsonaro, who were chanting slogans demanding the intervention of the army, broke through the police barrier and entered the National Congress building.
The police, who intervened with tear gas to disperse the protesters, were unable to prevent the groups from forcibly entering the Presidential Palace and the Supreme Court building. Bolsonaro supporters, who stormed the National Congress and the Presidential Palace, were taken out of these buildings by security forces and controlled. (AA)
