Spain wants to reform the European energy market and sends a proposal to Brussels. The main objective of the plan is to promote renewable energy by setting long-term prices for nuclear and hydroelectric power. Furthermore, the price link between natural gas and electricity must be eliminated.
This was announced by Spanish Minister for Ecological Transition Teresa Ribera at a press conference. Her proposal comes at the same time as Spain’s request to extend the so-called Iberian exception until the end of 2024. The exceptional position has given Spain and Portugal exceptional positions for energy prices.
Spain thinks the reform will be a difficult task, especially since several countries do not see the changes, such as Germany, Austria, the Netherlands and the Scandinavian countries. France, Italy and Portugal would support the plans.
