Plane’s response to the speaker of the Slovenian parliament
Urska Klakocar Zupancic, speaker of the Slovenian National Assembly, took a state plane from Ljubljana to the Austrian capital Vienna to listen to a concert.
Klakocar Zupancic was criticized in the media for using the state plane for the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra’s New Year’s concert and leaving a high carbon footprint. In the country’s press reports, it was said that 5 or 6 tons of carbon dioxide were emitted if an airplane was used on the Ljubljana-Vienna route, which takes about 4 hours, and Prime Minister Robert Golob reminded the population to eat less meat to reduce your carbon footprint.
After the backlash on social media and right-wing broadcast channels, Klakocar Zupancic said: “No one can travel without a carbon footprint. “Maybe if we decide to travel by carriage, we’ll leave a minimal carbon footprint,” he said.
Klakocar Zupancic claimed that the invitation to the concert came from his Austrian counterpart Wolfgang Sobotka, saying that they held a meeting after the concert where relations between the two countries were discussed. Klakocar Zupancic explained that the issues that were not discussed before were discussed and emphasized that the relations between the assemblies of the two countries continue at the highest level.
