British MP shares list of ‘sexually abusive’ politicians
Charlotte Nichols, representing the UK’s Warrington North district, posted a list of 20 “harassing” names on a WhatsApp group that appears to have been used by other Labor MPs before deleting it, saying it was posted in error.
Nichols, who was elected in 2019, previously said that when he entered parliament, he was given a “rumour-net list” of dozens of politicians “to avoid”.
Speaking in November, Nichols said some lawmakers are known for “bullying or sexual harassment.” she added.
“I AM NOT SURE”
While Nichols did not publicly reveal anyone’s names, according to The Mail on Sunday, the list he circulated on WhatsApp included several politicians previously accused of harassment and a prominent Conservative Party lawmaker who had not been involved in any previous harassment. .
Nichols, who was criticized for acting “irresponsibly,” made a statement on his Twitter account, “What is really irresponsible is that Westminster has not taken any real action to address this pervasive problem of sexual harassment. Other MPs and staff need to be warned about the behavior of some of their colleagues to keep them safe! I wish it weren’t like that, but that’s the way it is for now,” he wrote.
Nichols’ comments could reinforce concerns about Westminster. In July, Chris Pincher, who was then Boris Johnson’s top aide, faced accusations of harassing men at a private members’ club. Tory David Warburton was also accused of sexual misconduct, but denied it. Rob Roberts was also suspended from parliament for six weeks for breaching parliament’s sexual misconduct policy.
