Covid measures increase in Europe against China
The German and Belgian governments have decided to make it mandatory for travelers from China to present a negative Covid-19 test. The decision came after the health and crisis management authorities of the European Union (EU) countries agreed on a “common position” yesterday.
German Health Minister Karl Lauterbach stated that “at least one rapid antigen test will be needed” for passengers coming from China to Germany and stated that the regulation on entry into the country will change in this regard in a short time.
Belgian Federal Health Minister Frank Vandenbroucke said: “We will tell those who come from China; “You have to show proof of negative testing before coming, otherwise you won’t be able to come here.”
In addition to EU members France, Italy, Spain, some countries like the US, Japan and India had previously taken some measures, including testing for passengers from China. The EU and the Schengen countries also agreed to implement coordinated measures due to the increase in Covid-19 cases in China.
The test was not required for those coming from China, but it was stated that it would be “highly recommended” to request a negative test 48 hours before the flight. (AA)
