Hundreds of flights and more than 65,000 passengers affected by power outage in the Philippines

There was a power outage in the morning at the Air Traffic Management Center, which oversees all flights in Philippine airspace.

Around 300 domestic and international flights were delayed, canceled or diverted to other airports at Manila Airport due to the disruption.

More than 65 thousand passengers were victims of flight changes.

The Minister of Transportation, Jaime Bautista, at a press conference, said that the power outage at the Air Traffic Management Center affected communication channels, internet, radio and radar.

Bautista apologized for the grievances experienced and stated that the authorities are working to support the passengers affected by the situation.

With the reestablishment of the air traffic system during the day, flights continued from the Ninoy Aquino airport in the capital, Manila.

Meanwhile, authorities have asked airlines to increase the number of flights in order to settle passenger grievances.

The authorities reported that flights may take 3 days to return to normal. (AA)
