Exchange of ‘captive dogs’ from Russia and Ukraine

The dog named Adik, who was taken prisoner by Russian soldiers in the Ukrainian war and given as a gift to Chechen leader Ramazan Kadyrov, has been freed in the latest prisoner exchange between the two countries.

The pit bull terrier dog was captured in the Russian army’s raid on the Azovstal metal factory in the city of Mariupol in June and was taken prisoner along with dozens of Ukrainians. The dog was revealed to have been given to Kadyrov, who provided great support to Russia in the war, as “spoils of war.” The Chechen leader was said to have renamed the dog and made Adidas.

Adik returned to Ukraine after a Russian-Ukrainian prisoner exchange for the New Year. The release of the dog with almost 140 Ukrainians, who remained in response to 82 Russian soldiers, generated joy in Ukraine.

The dog was said to have been returned to the Ukrainian woman, who was the previous owner. The images that show Adik returning to his country by bus after being released in a prisoner exchange were appreciated on social networks.

Russia and Ukraine exchanged prisoners several times in the recent war, which has been going on since February 24.
