TikTok Ban on US Proxies

In the US, the House of Representatives has banned the download of the TikTok social media platform app to official devices used by its members and employees.

The Office of the Chief Executive Officer of the House of Representatives announced the ban via email to House members and staff. In the announcement, it was noted that “the TikTok app was considered a high security risk by the cybersecurity bureau” and that apps already installed on government-owned devices should be removed.

Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Director Chris Wray also stated that control of TikTok is in the hands of the Chinese government and warned that this raises national security concerns for the United States.

TikTok’s chief operating officer, Vanessa Pappas, on the other hand, stated in a US Senate session in September that the Chinese government does not have access to the app’s data. (AA)
