Britain’s Labor Party is ahead of Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s ruling Conservatives. A poll by broadcaster GB News shows 45% of respondents would now vote for Labour, with just 19% for the Conservatives.
This further boosts Labour’s popularity: in a previous poll, the difference was 24 points, two points less than it is now. The survey was conducted by People Polling among 1,169 adults. The previous constituency poll on 23 December gave Labor a 24-point lead.
Prelude to national elections
“Whatever Rishi Sunak does, he better do soon,” said Matthew Goodwin, a professor of politics at the University of Kent, in response to the poll. “Time is running out now and he and his crew are way behind.”
The figures are a new sign that Sunak is having a tough time. British politics is gearing up for the next general election, due to be held in 2024. Despite recent popularity figures, Labor appears to be on track to retaining a majority in the House of Commons.
