New verdict for Abe Shinzo murder suspect
According to the Kyodo news agency, the suspect’s statements about preparing a firearm to shoot Abe during the investigation led prosecutors to believe the suspect was qualified to stand trial.
Sources close to the matter assured that the prosecution decided to charge the suspect after a psychiatric evaluation.

The detention of the 42-year-old suspect will end on January 10, 2023, due to a psychiatric examination.
Former Japanese Prime Minister Abe was shot in the chest while speaking at an open-air event in support of the Liberal Democratic Party candidate’s election campaign in the country’s city of Nara on July 8.
Japanese state television NHK announced that Abe, who was taken to hospital with serious injuries, died.
A small public funeral for Abe was held on July 12 at the Zojo-Ji Buddhist Temple in central Tokyo.
The Nara District Prosecutor’s Office extended Yamagami’s detention to examine whether he was mentally fit for trial. (AA)
