The Pope directs Christmas for the tenth time
This year, approximately 7,000 people attended Christmas Mass, which has been held with limited participation for the past two years due to the Covid-19 outbreak at the Vatican’s famed St. Peter’s Basilica.
It is seen that Pope Francis has attended the Christmas service for the tenth time since he became the spiritual leader of the Catholic world, confined to a wheelchair due to knee pain in recent months.
The spiritual leader of Catholics, who blessed the believers who attended the ceremony, said in his speech that Hz. commemorated Jesus.
In his speech, the Pope warned against greed in consumption, and stated that people have turned to consuming their neighbors and even their brothers because of the hunger for power and money.
Emphasizing that the poor should not be forgotten at Christmas, the Pope said he is also thinking of children who are victims of wars.
Pope Francis, the spiritual leader of Catholics, will deliver the traditional “Urbi et Orbi” (Rome and the World) address, in which he delivers messages on global issues, after the noon Christmas Mass. (AA)
