Intelligence Report Released: Concern Over Putin’s Nuclear Threat
As the war between Russia and Ukraine has been going on since February 24, the Danish Defense Intelligence Service Forsvarets Efterretningstjeneste published a report. In the prepared report, the course of the war between Russia and Ukraine and possible scenarios were discussed.
In the report, while examining Russia’s short-term and long-term plans, it was stated that Russia’s main objective was to withdraw NATO forces from regions close to the Russian border. While it was pointed out that Sweden and Finland share a very wide border with Russia, it was stated that the request of these two countries to join NATO would not change Putin’s mind.
The report, “Sweden’s and Finland’s application to become NATO members will mean that Russia strengthens its permanent military presence in the Baltic Sea region.” On the other hand, the report also predicts that Putin will threaten Sweden and Finland more severely in the future.
“Putin will increase threats to use nuclear weapons directly on his targets in Sweden and Finland,” the report says.
