Greece’s Secret Plan To Anger Ankara Revealed: They Take Action In March

Ta Nea, one of the most widely read newspapers in Greece, wrote that the Athens government is preparing a move that will anger Ankara. The newspaper wrote that ahead of next year’s elections, Greece is preparing to extend Crete’s areas of maritime jurisdiction to 12 miles in some respects.

In the newspaper news it was said that an extension would be made from the south and west of the island, not from the east of the island, so that Athens would have a disagreement with the Turkish authorities. While the plan was claimed to have come out of the “drawer” of the Foreign Ministry, it was claimed that Prime Minister Kiriakos Mitsotakis, who made plans to sit in the seat in next year’s elections, also approved this move.

Greek media recalled that both Mitsotakis and Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias had called for increasing the areas of maritime jurisdiction in Crete to 12 miles, saying: “We are ready to do it if it serves the interests of the country.”

Foreign Ministry sources told Ta Nea that this plan could be implemented in March next year. On the other hand, it was stated in the news that the US supported this plan. The article stated: “The United States will also benefit the energy sector in the Eastern Mediterranean and support problem solving and stabilization from the Balkans to the Middle East.”

While it was stated that US-based ExxonMobil’s investigations are continuing in the region and that the US is very interested in the situation in the region, it was also claimed that Turkey would not be affected if Crete were to leave. spread from the south and west.

WILL PROVIDE STRATEGIC ADVANTAGE

On the other hand, in the same news in Ta Nea, the Rafale fighter planes that Greece bought from France came to the fore.

According to some sources, it was reported that there will be an increase in the number of Rafale in Greece in March, and pilot training will be completed in the spring of next year. “This will give Athens a strategic airborne advantage against Turkey,” the article said.
