Electric car sales exceed 6,000

According to data from the Association of Automotive and Mobility Dealers (ODMD), Turkey’s automobile and light commercial vehicle sales decreased by 1 percent in January-November 2022 compared to the same period of the previous year and amounted to 668 thousand. 63 units.

In said period, automobile sales decreased 2.4 percent to 505,886 units, while light commercial vehicle sales increased 3.4 percent to 162,177 units.

When the automobile market was assessed by engine type, it was noted that the decline in sales of diesel-powered automobiles continued. The fact that manufacturers offer fewer diesel vehicles to the market compared to previous years is also considered one of the important factors in the decline in diesel sales.

353 thousand 529 GASOLINE VEHICLES SOLD IN 11 MONTHS

In the Turkish auto market, in the 11 months of this year, gasoline cars ranked first with 353,529 sales, while diesel cars ranked second with 87,045 units.

While sales of hybrid cars were 51,504 units, sales of gas-powered cars were registered at 7,594 units and sales of electric cars at 6,214 units.

In January-November 2021, 342,245 gasolines, 104,218 diesel, 45,190 hybrids, 24,226 autogas and 2,415 electric cars were sold.

Thus, in said period, sales of electric cars increased by 157.3 percent and sales of hybrid cars increased by 14 percent.

TESLA STARTS BUYING IN TURKEY

The development of electric mobility in Turkey has attracted the attention of many brands. Tesla, the world’s best-known electric car brand, is also opening up to Turkey. Tesla, which began its attack on Turkey with the super-fast charging stations it has established, has now made a recruitment announcement for its Turkey headquarters.

According to information on the company’s official website, the first service center will be opened in Istanbul Beşiktaş. The center is seeking staff for the positions of “mobile service technician, auto mechanic/technician, service consultant, parts consultant, automotive supervisor, Tesla consultant and supercharger business development leader.”

Sources close to the matter state that the official announcement about the service in Istanbul will be made in early 2023. (BRITISH AUTOMOBILE CLUB)
