After eighteen months, interviews of more than a thousand witnesses, and the study of over a million pages of documents, there is a final report on the storming of the Capitol. The US parliamentary committee that investigated the events of January 6, 2021 has released its 845-page final report.
A summary – 154 pages long – was released earlier this week and the committee recommended that former President Trump be prosecuted for the storming of the Capitol. The final report is clear on this too: all the evidence points in one direction and that is “that the main cause of January 6 is a man, former President Trump”, writes the New York Times.
Prominent Democratic politician Nancy Pelosi provided the foreword to the final report. Our democratic institutions are only as strong as the commitment of those entrusted with their care. The eight subsequent chapters are, according to the British newspaper The Guardian, “one of the most damning official portraits of a president in American history”.
Trump objected to the commission during the investigation. He speaks of a “witch hunt” aimed at preventing him from becoming president again.
