They publish final report on raid on Congress that shook the US.
The House Special Committee on January 6, which investigated the raid on the US Capitol building on January 6, 2021, released its final report at the end of the 18-month investigation.
The 845-page report comes three days after 9 committee members unanimously petitioned the Justice Department to bring charges against former President Donald Trump for his efforts to nullify the 2020 presidential election and block its return. “The elected committee report also highlights that our democratic institutions are only as strong as the commitment of those entrusted to them,” said Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the US House of Representatives, in the report’s foreword.
The 8-part report includes the general framework for the evidence, as well as legal advice for the US Department of Justice and the Congressional Ethics Committee. The report recommended that the Senate approve the Presidential Elections Census Law, approved by Congress.
In addition, the report stressed that the Ministry of Justice should take appropriate measures to prevent lawyers from engaging in activities aimed at undermining the rule of law and nullifying a legal choice.
The Committee was reported to believe that those who took an oath to protect and defend the Constitution and then participated in the January 6 raid could be barred from holding government office.
TRUMP: POLITICAL WITCH HUNT
Commenting on the report on the Truth Social network, former President Donald Trump described the final report as “highly partisan” and “a political witch hunt.”
The House of Representatives Special Committee on January 6, established in June 2021 to investigate the January 6, 2021 US congressional raid of thousands of pages of documents. The Committee’s mandate expires at the end of the year.
The committee has called many people close to Trump to testify, and former Trump adviser Steve Bannon and his former private secretary Mark Meadows, who failed to comply with these calls, were charged with “insulting Congress.” (AA)
