Passage of embassy from Chile to Palestine
Chilean President Gabriel Boric announced that his country’s representation will be raised to the level of charge d’affaires in Palestine and an embassy will be opened during his government.
According to Chilean media reports, President Boric attended the Christmas event organized by the Palestinian community in the country’s capital, Santiago. Boric said in his speech here: “We cannot forget a community here today, in the Palestinian Club, that has been subjected to an illegal occupation, fighting and seeing its rights violated.”
Stating that his government’s official representation in Palestine will be raised to embassy level, Boric said: “One of the decisions we’ve made as a government, I think we haven’t announced it before, I’m taking a chance on that, we will.” raise the level of official representation in Palestine from the current charge d’affaires and we will open an embassy during our rule to give proper representation,” he said.
Calling for respect for international law, Boric reiterated his solidarity with the Palestinian people, saying: “Know that you have a friend here and I highly respect your tradition. This situation should not be misinterpreted, let’s think that these actions arose from love.
Maurice Khamis, president of the Palestinian Society of Chile, also thanked Boric, as a Palestinian community in Chile, for his commitment to international law and human rights. Khamis expressed his satisfaction with the elevation of the Chilean representation in Palestine to the embassy level.
HE DID NOT MEET WITH THE AMBASSADOR OF ISRAEL
Known for his solidarity with Palestine, Boric drew attention to human rights violations against the Palestinian people at the 77th United Nations (UN) General Assembly, which he attended for the first time on September 20, 2022, saying that these should not be normalized.
Boric postponed the meeting, which was scheduled to present the credentials of Gil Artzyeli, Israel’s ambassador in Santiago on September 16, 2022, shortly before he was due to present his credentials, and sources close to the government explained the reason why the Israeli ambassador’s meeting was postponed, although he accepted the credentials of different ambassadors on the same day. He claimed that he killed a Palestinian youth.
Immediately afterwards, the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned the Chilean Ambassador to Israel to present his condemnation. (AA)
