Sweden: Turkey has the right to defend itself against terrorism
In a statement to the newspaper Dagens Nyheter published in his country, Swedish Foreign Minister Billström evaluated the “Air Operation Claw-Sword” launched by Turkey to end terrorism in northern Iraq and Syria.
Minister Billström said: “Every country has the right to defend itself against terrorism and this right includes Turkey. The fight against the terrorist organization DAESH is important in the region, but Turkey is a country that has been exposed for years and has legitimate reasons to defend itself against terrorism. The Swedish government also believes that this defense should be done sparingly.” he used the phrase.
Emphasizing that he trusts the Turkish government’s statement that the PKK/YPG terrorist organization is behind the attack in Istanbul, Billström noted that he does not trust the terrorist organization’s statements.
Billström expressed that he feels progress has been made in the NATO membership talks with Turkey.
Emphasizing that there is a serious security problem in the world, Billström said that delaying Sweden’s membership in NATO would be bad. (AA)
