Germany did not provide energy aid to pensioners who arrived in Turkey
Germany gave 300 euros of energy support to each retiree this month to protect retirees from inflation and rising energy prices due to the war in Ukraine. However, Turkish pensioners who retired from Germany and live in Turkey could not benefit from this support.
Turks, who worked in Germany for years and retired and received less pension than their German counterparts, fell victim to this decision. Thousands of Turks were unable to receive the 300 euros added to their pension on December 7, 2022.
PERMANENT RESIDENCE STATUS
Energy aid to pensioners was made conditional on “permanent residence in Germany”. Retired couples with permanent residence in Germany also began to receive their 300 euros separately.
Retirees of Turkish origin, who preferred to live in Turkey to escape the cold and be in their homeland, were not paid a penny even if they were German citizens.
APPLICATION TO THE EMBASSY
Retirees in Turkey are very angry with this situation. Those who received pensions from Germany began to write letters to the German Embassy in Turkey to eliminate inequality. Noting that the German government made a distinction between retirees with this decision, studies are underway to bring the issue to court. In the first place, it is affirmed that the separation constitutes a violation of the principle of equality of the constitution.
‘NATURAL GAS BILLS RISE IN TURKEY’
Arriving in Sözcü, some retirees said: “Didn’t energy prices go up in Germany but not in Turkey? Here, too, there is inflation, and besides, it is higher. We too have suffered. We don’t understand Berlin’s distinction between retirees,” he said.
Some retirees are preparing to apply with a joint petition against inequality and injustice.
Turkish pensioners living in Germany, on the other hand, began to receive their help of 300 euros. Those who did not receive it will be paid in January.
