The EU condemns the attacks in Kosovo

Peter Stano, spokesman for the European Commission, said: “We certainly condemn all the violence and attacks that have taken place in Kosovo.” he said he.

Calling for a de-escalation, Stano stressed that this is necessary above all for the benefit of the local population.

Noting that the EU Rule of Law Mission (EULEX) and the NATO Kosovo Force (KFOR) are there to ensure security on the ground, Stano stressed that they continue to patrol and monitor the situation.

Stating that the normalization of relations between Kosovo and Serbia is essential for the membership of both countries in the EU, Stano said that the EU-Western Balkans Summit held in Tirana, the capital of Albania, made many calls on this issue last week. pass.

KOSOVO-SERBIAN TENSION

Serbia and Kosovo were once again tense after Kosovo reported an increased security force presence in Serb-populated areas in the north of the country.

The two countries clashed again before early general elections to be held on December 18 in 4 municipalities in northern Kosovo, where the Serb population is densely populated.

While the Kosovo side claims to provide security in the region before the elections, the Serb side argues that it wants to expel Serbs living in the region.

Local media reports say that the situation in northern Kosovo is calm but tense.

Serbia considers Kosovo, which unilaterally declared its independence in 2008, as its territory.

Serbia and Kosovo, which regularly clash, are trying to find a common path to normalize relations and, ultimately, for the two countries to get to know each other, within the framework of the Belgrade-Pristina Dialogue Process, which began in 2011 under the mediation of the European Union (EU).
