The United States accuses Moscow of providing “an unparalleled amount of military and technical support” to Iran. John Kirby, a White House defense official, warns of the large-scale military partnership between Iran and Russia.
Kirby says he has information from US intelligence that indicates Russia is providing military assistance to Iran. This would include the Russian delivery of military aircraft. Also, Russia uses Iranian drones in the war in Ukraine.
The United States previously condemned cooperation between Iran and Russia, but an intense partnership, which includes the exchange of helicopters, fighter jets and drones, was discussed for the first time on Friday. It has already led to US sanctions against Russia.
Drones
Kirby also said that Russia and Iran are considering jointly producing drones for the war in Ukraine. In addition, Russia is training Iranian pilots in the Sukhoi Su-35 fighter jet, some of which Iran could receive within a year.
