Musk can’t get enough of layoffs! He also fired the cleaners.
Four cleaners who worked at Twitter’s San Francisco headquarters said in an interview with the BBC that they were fired without severance pay after Musk came to power.
Julio Alvarado, one of the workers, said he has been working at Twitter for 10 years, the environment has always been friendly, but things changed when Musk bought the company in October.
“ROBOTS WILL REPLACE PEOPLE”
Alvarado said that while cleaning parts of the office after Musk took office, he was accompanied by private security.
Saying that he was supporting his family in Mexico and feared that he would not be able to pay his bills, Alvarado said: “I can only tell you that I don’t have money to pay the rent. I will not have health insurance. I don’t know what to do,” he said.
Other dismissed workers, Adrianna Villarreal, Juana Laura Chavero Ramírez and the head of the Cleaning Workers Union, Olga Miranda, also expressed their concerns and the process they went through.
A small group of cleaners have been protesting outside the Twitter building in San Francisco since November 5.
THE AUTHORITIES REACTED
San Francisco city attorney David Chiu said he was investigating whether Musk violated the law on firing healthcare workers without compensation. In a statement to the BBC, Chiu said Musk had flouted labor laws in the past, saying: “I’m not surprised this has happened, I understand the suffering of the workers. We will examine the matter in detail.” he used his statements.
Scott Wiener, a member of the California state senate, said the cleaners were treated “horribly.” “In the short term, I want to see Elon Musk treat his cleaners like humans, rehiring them instead of firing them on Christmas Eve,” Wiener said. he said.
The Twitter address did not respond to questions from the BBC on the matter.
After the $44 billion purchase of Elon Musk, layoffs began at the social media company Twitter. It was reported that 50 percent of Twitter employees were laid off. (AA)
