Sweden announces better understanding of Turkey’s security concerns
Stenström, Sweden’s chief negotiator for NATO membership, told Anadolu Agency (AA) that Sweden reiterated its determination to take the necessary steps under the memorandum signed with Turkey and Finland at the NATO Summit in Madrid on June 28th.
Stating that the Swedish government gave priority to the commitments made under the agreement, Stenström said: “We are all working on it, we will fully comply with the agreement.” he said he.
Referring to the new anti-terror law, Stenström said: “With this, (life) will be more difficult for anyone involved in any terrorist crime, especially the PKK.” he used the phrase.
Expressing his condolences for the terrorist attack carried out by the PKK/YPG in Istanbul on November 13, Stenström expressed that Sweden is ready to be a part of the fight against terrorism.
“The good bilateral relations we have between Sweden and Turkey will be even stronger when Sweden is accepted as a member of NATO.” Stenström noted that her country takes terrorism seriously and will comply with the requirements of the triple memorandum.
Expressing that Sweden has changed, Oscar Stenström said: “We better understand Turkey’s security concerns. This will also increase the security of Sweden.” he said he.
Pointing out that “financing terrorism, financing the PKK” is a threat to Turkey and Sweden, Stenström claimed that this also harms Swedish society.
“Sweden should not and will not be a safe haven for any terrorist, so we are increasing our cooperation between our security services,” Stenström said. We are dedicating more funds to these services and advocacy. We will be delighted to cooperate together in NATO.” he used his statements. (AA)
