Presidential Spokesman Kalın met with US National Security Adviser Sullivan
According to the statement of the Spokesperson for the Presidency, during the meeting, bilateral political and economic relations, cooperation in the defense industry, the Russia-Ukraine war, the Eastern Mediterranean, the accession processes of Sweden and Finland to NATO, Syria, Iraq and the fight against terrorism regional issues were discussed.
While he expressed satisfaction with the meeting held at the leadership level in Bali on the sidelines of the G20, it was agreed to continue dialogue and consultations on global and regional issues.
At the meeting, where it was stated that Turkey and the US, as two NATO allies, should focus on strategic priorities and common interests, the importance of continued cooperation in the field of defense industry was emphasized.
F-16s were also discussed at the meeting.
During the meeting, Turkey’s expectations regarding the unconditional completion of the approval process of the F-16 acquisition and modernization request by the US Congress were conveyed.
It was emphasized that the prolongation and extension of the Ukrainian war deepened the crisis on a global scale, that the war must be ended and a return to the negotiating table. Turkey was reported to be resolutely continuing its diplomatic initiatives that could pave the way for a ceasefire, including the prisoner exchange and grain deal.
It was underlined that the PKK/PYD/YPG terrorist organizations, which pose a threat to national security, were targeted by Turkey’s operations in Syria and Iraq. It was recalled that Turkey, which was exposed to terrorist attacks, has the right to self-defense in accordance with article 51 of the UN Convention. It was emphasized that Turkey is determined to eliminate all kinds of terrorist dangers and threats.
Expressing satisfaction with the progress achieved by Finland and Sweden, it was noted that all the commitments of the Tripartite Agreement must be fulfilled. (AA)
