Fist attack on opposition leader in Albania
Tensions rose in the region during the EU-Western Balkans Summit held in Tirana, the capital of Albania.
A large crowd gathered as the country’s right-wing Democratic Party held an anti-government rally during the summit. During the march, which was attended by thousands of Albanians, things got complicated when a man punched the leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha.
Many people turned on each other as a fight broke out in the large group. Shouting slogans against Prime Minister Edi Rama and his government, the group also called for early elections.
As Berisha’s nose was bleeding, the attacker was nearly lynched by Berisha’s supporters. Despite his injury, Berisha is reported to be in good health.
Corruption charges were brought against Berisha, a former prime minister and head of state.
