‘Firing missiles into each other’s territory does not settle the matter’ Related Articles

While it is great that Ukraine manages to bomb targets in Russia, it is very questionable what the utility of such attacks is. “One has to ask what the benefits of bombing each other actually are,” says foreign commentator Bernard Hammelburg.

Yesterday Ukraine managed to hit two Russian military airfields, also hitting some bombers. Last night, in another attack on the city of Kursk, only one fuel depot was set on fire. “So this is a form of intimidation or revenge,” says Hammelburg. The Russians have always responded by bombing all possible targets passing through Ukraine. This is also revenge, because he also fails to achieve what they want, namely intimidation of the Ukrainian population. So you have to ask yourself what that back-and-forth bombardment actually produces. I think the answer is: nothing.”

Important breakthroughs also appear to be missing at the front, though that’s no reason to continue bombing, Hammelburg says. “Holding missiles against targets on each other’s territory won’t solve the problem.”

According to Hammelburg, the only way out of the war is to start negotiations at some point. “There are occasional rumors that it is being discussed again, but Putin vehemently contradicted it again today. The war is now entering its tenth month, and is basically a stalemate.’
