Volcano alert in Indonesia! 2,000 people were evacuated

The Indonesian National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) reported that 1,969 people, including children and the elderly, were evacuated to safe areas in villages around the Semeru volcano.

It was shared that 6 villages in the surrounding area were affected, but no injuries were reported. In the statement issued by the Indonesian Ministry of Transportation, it was reported that the ash and smoke caused by the volcano did not cause any disruption to air traffic, but airports in the region should be careful.

It was recorded that the dense ash and smoke that erupted from the Semeru volcano reached a height of 1500 meters and the alarm level was raised to the highest level.

The volcano warning system in Indonesia consists of 4 levels: “green”, “yellow”, “orange” and the highest level “red”.

51 people died in the volcanic eruption of Semeru Volcano on December 4, 2021.
