White House support for EU price ceiling request for Russian gas
White House National Security Council Strategic Communications Coordinator Kirby, in his briefing to White House reporters via Zoom, assessed the US foreign policy agenda and answered questions from journalists.
When asked about the decision by EU countries to impose a price ceiling on Russian oil, Kirby claimed that Biden had previously encouraged this issue, saying they believed that the application of the price ceiling would reduce the Russian president’s war capacity, Vladimir Putin.
“We welcome action by our EU partners in this regard,” Kirby said. He pointed out that they always support the application of the cap price.
EU countries agreed today to apply a maximum price of $60 per barrel to oil transported by sea from Russia. (AA)
