Pentagon tender for $1.2 billion air defense system for Ukraine
The US Department of Defense (Pentagon) announced that it has awarded the $1.2 billion tender to defense company Raytheon to produce the National Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile System (NASAMS) for Ukraine.
In a written statement from the Pentagon, “The Raytheon Company won a $1,216,207,829 fixed-price contract for the supply of NASAMS-related equipment, services, and spare parts to support efforts in Ukraine. Bids were solicited via the Internet and were received an offer.
The statement stated that production will be completed on November 28, 2025 and the contract amount will be provided from the fund allocated for the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative in the FY2023 defense budget.
Ukraine has been demanding US air defense systems for a long time. The Pentagon sent two NASAMS to Ukraine last month.
Despite Ukraine’s request for a Patriot air defense system, the Pentagon has stated that it has no plans to send Patriots at this stage. (AA)
