Scholz: Russia should not win this war
Speaking at the joint press conference after his meeting with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz in Berlin, Stoltenberg said: “We want to strengthen Poland’s security. We are still in talks on this issue,” he said.
Referring to discussions about the deployment of Germany’s Patriot air defense systems in Ukraine, Stoltenberg said: “It is very valuable that Germany offers Patriots to Poland. Germany acts as a responsible ally. As for Ukraine, Germany has already sent an air defense system there, the Iris-T.” he said.
Stoltenberg said the Patriots should be dealt with separately from the Ukraine issue. Stating that Ukraine needs an air defense system, Stoltenberg said that the equipment and ammunition of these systems are also important.
Expressing once again that Russia’s war against Ukraine is against international law, Stoltenberg said: “Winter is getting worse because of the war. Russia should not win this war. We will not allow (Russian President Vladimir) Putin to drag NATO into war.” he used the phrases.
Stoltenberg added that Germany welcomes the proposal to establish a NATO-backed center for the protection of rights to submarine pipelines and other infrastructure.
“RUSSIA MUST NOT WIN THIS WAR”
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz also stated that he and his NATO allies will continue to support Ukraine as long as it is needed.
“Russia should not win this war.” Scholz said, adding that NATO should not be part of the war, lest it cause global tension.
Stating that NATO is in a position to ensure the basic security of Germany and its allies, the German chancellor expressed his wish for Sweden and Finland to become members of the union until the next NATO meeting.
Scholz avoided answering the question of whether the Patriots should be given the Ukraine, referring to his offer to Poland.
“We want to strengthen the security of Poland. Contact with Poland continues and this is not complete yet.” he said she.
Stating that the “Bundeswehr”, the German Armed Forces, has gone down the wrong path in supplying ammunition in recent years, Scholz said: “Now when we look at our own figures, not only because of the war in Ukraine, also now I concretely understand how important it is to be able to guarantee a continuous supply there,” he said.
Noting that Defense Minister Christine Lambrecht has been very determined to address these shortcomings in recent years, Scholz said: “This is not an easy operation. He’s doing everything he can to make it successful and he will.” she used the phrases. (AA)
