ISIS leader Abu Hassan al-Hashimi al-Qurayshi dies
CENTCOM spokesman Colonel Joe Buccino said in a written statement: “The death of Abu al-Hasan al-Hashimi al-Qurayshi in mid-October dealt another blow to ISIS. This operation was carried out by the Free Syrian Army in the Syrian province of Dar’a.
Buccino stated that ISIS continues to be a threat to the region and they are focused on the permanent defeat of the group.
It is not known what role the anti-ISIS coalition played in this attack. US forces are cooperating with an opposition group called Mugawvir Et-Tavra in the Al-Tanif region, where the borders of Iraq, Syria and Jordan meet.
The group had recently changed its name to the “Free Syrian Army”.
Abu Ibrahim al-Hashimi al-Qurayshi, who succeeded ISIS’s first leader, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, was killed in February in a US special forces operation in northwestern Syria. (AA)
