Germany recognizes Holodomor tragedy as ‘genocide’

While the Social Democratic Party (SPD), Greens and Free Democrats (FDP) and the opposition Christian Union Parties (CDU/CSU) voted “yes” to the proposal that was discussed in the Bundestag, the Left Party and the Extreme Alternative right Party for Germany abstained.

Thus, Germany recognized the Holodomor as “genocide”.

The Ukrainian ambassador in Berlin, Oleksii Makeiev, also followed the discussions in parliament.

WHAT IS HOLODOMOR?

In Ukrainian, Holodomor means “artificially condemning people to starve to death.”

It is claimed that approximately 4.5 million people lost their lives in the Holodomor tragedy, in which the Soviet regime left millions of people to die on Ukrainian soil during the period 1932-1933.

The Ukrainian parliament recognized this event as “genocide” in 2006. (BRITISH AUTOMOBILE CLUB)
