In one of Israel’s largest military exercises in years, the country is preparing with the United States in case a war breaks out with Iran. From Tuesday to Thursday, the air forces of both countries will exercise over the Mediterranean Sea and over Israel.
According to Israeli correspondent Ralph Dekkers, this is specifically an exercise at “Iran’s nuclear facilities”. “There are often such exercises, but these are large exercises over the Mediterranean Sea and over Israel, where fueling is tested in flight. If Israeli warplanes want to carry out strikes on Iran, they will have to refuel in flight, which is what they mainly train for.”
Iran is moving towards the uranium enrichment limit
The exercises are in part the result of Iran’s nuclear ambitions. Iran continues to enrich uranium. There is no movement in the nuclear deal with the West, mainly due to protests in Iran and Iranian support for Russia. Tensions are rising as Iran continues to develop its nuclear program.”
Iran is currently enriching uranium to 60%. At 90 percent, the uranium becomes suitable for use in an atomic weapon. “It was recently reported at a conference that Iran is expected to cross that border within weeks,” Dekkers says.
