Gas supplies from Russia to Europe via Ukraine could be further scaled back, reports Bloomberg. This was warned by the Russian state gas group Gazprom. The route through Ukraine is currently the only route by which gas can be transported from Russia to Europe.
The Russian producer said on Telegram that some volumes of gas destined for Moldova remained stranded in Ukraine. According to Gazprom, these are approximately 52.5 million cubic meters of gas which were actually intended for Moldova, but have not been delivered there. If these problems continue, Gazprom will further reduce gas supplies from next week, it appears. Gazprom currently sends around 43 million cubic meters a day to Europe via Ukraine.
The threat comes as colder weather hits Europe and with it increases the demand for gas. Traders and policymakers are excited by developments around the last remaining route as Moscow has restricted gas flows to Europe for months.
