The EU foresees a monthly aid of 1,500 million euros for Ukraine in 2023
President Ursula von der Leyen had a telephone conversation with Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, according to a written statement from the EU Commission.
Von der Leyen reported that he will propose this week to Zelenskiy the financial package for 2023, which will amount to 1,500 million euros per month and a total of 18,000 million euros.
During the meeting, the importance of predictable and regular financing of core state functions was emphasized, and it was stated that this would also work to support Ukraine’s reforms and its path to EU membership.
Noting that the EU financial package must be backed by similar aid from other major donors, von der Leyen said that the EU continues its efforts to continue providing urgent humanitarian aid to Ukraine, especially during the winter months.
During the meeting, stressing the importance of ensuring that Ukraine’s agricultural exports reach the world, they reiterated their full support for efforts to reach an agreement with Russia on the Black Sea Grains Initiative.
Responses to Iran’s support for Russia, as well as the strengthening of sanctions, were also discussed. (AA)
